Some of my finished projects.

Casa Bamboo, Zihuatenejo, a beach house I designed from ground up. Small but numerous windows focus light and interest, while keeping maintenance costs low in the salty air and hurricanes.

Pool area of Casa Bamboo — long cushions to chill and lounge together and solo, bars and tables built-in to serve and draw people together. Half of the kitchen is indoors, half outdoors, from omelettes to barbecues.

Exterior of Casa Bamboo — bedrooms and “sala”/kitchen in separate small buildings not only gives quiet when desired, but also turns hallways into garden, to glory in a barefoot outdoor life.

Bedrooms and bathrooms of Casa Bamboo — These are simple, because so much living happens outside. The rainfall shower over rocks adds to the sense of an outdoor life.

Making a cozy outdoor social space where there had been none. This patio had been an ignored space at the entrance to a garden suite, beneath external stairs. By adding seating and tables, hanging old windows and trellis to frame the space, and adding light, colour, and found objects, I turned it into a favourite summer sitting place.

As a chef I designed a room in my house to host ‘under ground’ dinner parties. I called it the Rouge Room. The room, the meal, even my costume made each evening a special event. In my polka dot apron, I once dressed as a 60’s housewife for one of my ‘Mad Men’ evenings, which featured a retro menu with a culinary twist…natch!

A fine dining establishment wouldn’t be complete without a snooty French waiter. The commissioned painting of ‘Guillaume the waiter’ disguised a door and added a touch of whimsy to the Rouge Room.

I couldn’t find an elongated shaped chandelier to balance out the size of the Rouge Room’s table, so I created one. I started with a light fixture purchased from a box store and layered it with bobbles and crystals collected over the years, all strung together with fishing line and wire.

Dining room, garden suite. The brick wall had been hidden behind drywall; I exposed it to offer its organic texture to the space.
This client requested a unique wall mount for his huge TV. The side panels are live edge arbutus framing an artists painting, ‘bird in flight’. The console is wall mounted and ambient lighting is used under the console and on either side of the arbutus.
